In Celebration of World Digestive Health Day, we are sharing our top tips for better digestion.

Goods Foods

Below you’ll find a list of the best foods to eat for better digestion.

Fermented foods: Obviously we love Kefir, which is packed with billions of gut-friendly bacteria, perfect for improving digestion. Other fermented foods we love are Sauerkraut, Kimchi and Kombucha. Try this recipe from BBC Good Food for homemade Sauerkraut.

Fibre: Think wholegrains, nuts and seeds as well as lots and lots of veggies (we mean a lot)! This recipe for a five-veg lasagne, makes a high fibre dinner. Get the down low on fibre here.

Fluids: Drinking lots of water helps to hydrate your body and also helps encourage the waste through your digestive system.  Herbal teas, especially peppermint are a way to ease bloating. You can make your own with fresh mint or find lots of options in store – we love Pukka tea.

Fats: Cut down on fats found in chips, burgers and fried foods, this will help to ease your stomach’s workload.

Good Advice

Chew! Don’t rush your food and take the time to eat slowly.

Eat regularly and don’t skip meals.

Exercise regularly.

Avoid eating late at night. Eat your dinner at least 2-3 hours before you go to sleep.

Stress less. For some people stress slows down digestion, causing bloating, pain and constipation.
